With her role in Scandal as the sassy and sophisticated Olivia Pope and her gorgeous look gracing the Red Carpet, Kerry Washington is downright flawless. Her complexion glows, her style is always classy, and she rocks her baby-bump like nobody’s business. So, what we’ve been trying to figure out is … what’s her secret?
The Hair: Washington’s long-time hair stylist, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew, dished out the secret to the star’s perfectly textured locks in an interview with the LA Times. Sturdivant-Drew said that before the Oscars, she washed Washington’s hair with Neutrogena Triple Repair Shampoo and Conditioner to give her hair shine. Then, she used a HairArt Blow dryer and Mason Pearson Brush to give Washington’s hair more volume at the roots. She finished by gently flat ironing to the ends, which gave her hair a beachy texture.
The Makeup: In a recent Allure article, Scandal’s makeup artist Sheri Knight gave a behind-the-scenes look at what techniques she uses to make Washington’s make-up glow. Knight said that shimmery eyes are key especially when you’re going to be on camera, and recommended bronze, gold and pewter shadow. She also uses a black gel eyeliner on top, a chocolate pencil liner on the lower lashes, and a few coats of mascara to make the eyes pop. Knight also recommended using layered blush, and incorporating both a cream and powder to add more dimensions to your face.
The Skin: Washington’s skincare regime is actually totally simple — which is surprising considering her face is always flawless. When asked what she does to keep her skin glowing, Washington simply said that she eats clean, drinks a lot of water, always gets a good night’s rest, and never goes to sleep with her makeup on. Also, she swears by Neutrogena’s Rainbath, which she credits for keeping her skin flawless for years.
