Yes,  you can soak up every beauty product under the sun, but if you’re not getting the proper nutrients from your diet, you might as well kiss clear skin goodbye.

Just like other parts of your body, the health of your skin is determined by what you eat. To put it in perspective, think of your body as a machine and food as the fuel that drives it. The cleaner the food, the easier it is for your body to process, and the more benefits you will receive. There are foods that contain certain antioxidants and nutrients that are key in enhancing the glow of your skin.

Here is a short list of treats that will help you feel good — inside and out:

Berries. Not only are blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries delish but they’re full of the antioxidants that help protect skin cells from damage. By protecting the cells antioxidants guard against premature aging, which keep your skin looking younger, longer.

Salmon. Salmon is full of the essential fatty acids that are responsible for healthy cell membranes, which keep harmful things out while holding water in. The stronger that barrier, the easier it is for your cells to hold moisture — and that means plumper, healthier looking skin. Also, the same inflammatory process that can harm your arteries and cause heart disease, can also be detrimental to your skin cells. Essential fatty acids provide protection to both.

Green Tea. While it isn’t a food, Green Tea’s health benefits are too incredible to pass up. Not only does Green Tea contain polyphenols that have anti-inflammatory properties, but it may even help reduce the rise of skin cancer. It’s also proven to increase energy levels and boost concentration — what’s not to love?

In  addition to these three skin-boosting power foods, make sure to drink plenty of water. Water keeps your skin hydrated and helps move nutrients in-and-out of your body. Doctors recommend at least half-a-gallon per day, so drink up!
