The leaves are green and the flowers are blooming, but we have a sense that humidity  will be here before we can say “Choose Chicago.” Summer throws of plenty of obstacles that keep us from looking our best: heat, blazing sun, bug bites, and chlorine. That’s why we’ve created a short list of beauty hacks to help you take on summer, all while looking fabulous.

Sip red wine. We all know that a nice glass of wine can be relaxing, but many forget that it has several health benefits, too. Red wine contains resveratrol, a naturally occurring phenol found in the skin of grapes, which helps decrease the redness that comes with minor sunburns. Sip it on summer nights to take a load off, and keep your skin looking fresh. Did we mention it has antioxidants and is known to ward off memory loss, too? We’ll cheers to that!

Take a cold shower. After you’ve been in the sun all day, sometimes all you want is a long shower. However, taking a hot shower after sun exposure can further dry skin. Turning down the temperature to cool off, refresh, and keep your skin healthy. Plus, cold showers have extra benefits, including preventing acne breakouts.

Wear a wide-brim hat. It may be baseball season, but that doesn’t do too much for our skin. Unfortunately baseball hats don’t have all of the coverage we need to stay protected. Opt for a wide-brim hat for full-protection, plus — you will look stunning!

Ward off bugs. While some people have never had a mosquito bite in their life, others become a buffet anytime they step outside during the summer. Many recommend using DEET bug-repellant, we prefer an all-natural outdoor spray, like Burts Bees All-Natural Outdoor Bug Repellant. Many people have skin sensitivities, and Burts Bees is safe for everyone, including children and pets, yet still wards off bugs with blend of Rosemary, Lemongrass, Citronella Oil and other essential oils.

Keep it simple. One of the best ways to keep your hair looking fabulous this summer is to keep simple. Take a break from blow-outs and embrace your natural texture by keeping your hair braided or in a bun.  This will help your hair to produce more of its natural oils, which in turn decreases frizz and helps to keep your hair healthy.
